About Your Ears

BackNext

The air chamber in the middle ear connects the back of the nose to the eustachian tube.

This tube serves as a pressure-equalizing valve and as a drain.

In infants and young children, the eustachian tube is short and flat. By age 7, the eustachian tube is larger and more upright which improves its ability to function.
